Welcome to BIS!
BIS Starts Safety Patrol
Written by 5th Grader A. M.
Safety Patrol is a really great program for people who want to keep others safe. Mrs. Murtha started the Safety Patrol this year at BIS.

Wondering what we do? At the beginning and end of the day we help kids getting on and off the bus.  We make sure they are all safe while getting to their classrooms , or in the hallways.  We walk around to make sure nobody is running in the hallways and tell them nicely to walk  in the hallways.  We also patrol in the gym and cafeteria to keep kids moving and quiet.

We also help out Mrs. Murtha with school assemblies.

During 5th grade recess we patrol on the playground , courts and field to help teachers keep students safe.

Our job can get very serious , like someone might get hurt or someone who was bullied would come up to the Safety Patrol to help them. We help students whenever we can. You need to be in 5th Grade to be in Safety Patrol.
Safety Patrol is a very fun thing to do at BIS!

Our Students Love to Read!

BRAG TAGS
This year at BIS, students will be rewarded for following our Do your PART motto, as well as doing their PART with their classwork. Below is a list of ways that students are able to earn BRAG (Being Responsible and Achieving Growth) Tags throughout the year.  The end of May, the PTO will be hosting an SOS Party (Start of Summer Party). During this event, students will receive tickets for each brag tag they’ve earned throughout the year. They can use the tickets to participate in various events. We know that with positive encouragement and community support, this will be a great program for the students. If students are upset that they did not earn a brag tag, we could use your support to encourage them to work hard to earn the next one!

How can students earn BRAG Tags?

Sign the Drug Free Pledge for your first tag!
Perfect attendance each quarter
On time – Never Tardy each quarter
Reaching your 10 point AR goal each quarter
Complete ALL of your homework for a week – you receive a letter – spell HOMEWORK and you receive a tag!
Academic Achievement (Honor Roll) each quarter
Principal’s Award – Random Acts or your WIN ticket is chosen in the drawing
Bus – Rider of the week
Cafeteria – Using manners, making good choices, and following rules earns you tickets – then there will be random drawings
Special Area Classes – Teacher’s will explain in class how to earn tags

Stair Riser Signage Installed at BIS
The Blackhawk Foundation provided BIS with funding to install stair riser signage for all stairwells.  As students walk up stairs they can practice their math facts, remember the rules of Do Your Part, and encourage each other on their Energy Bus with positive sayings.  Students and staff thank the Blackhawk Foundation for their continued generous support of our school.

BIS is an EPA School Flag Program School

Want to know the air quality outside today?  Just look at the flagpole at BIS.
BIS is the first school in Beaver County to participate in the Environmental Protection Agency's School Flag Program.

Each day a 4th grade student will check the Air Quality Index on the AIRNow website.

A different colored Flag will be risen based on that rating.  Click Here to read more about the program.
